NADRA Birth Certificate Pakistan: Apply Online from Anywhere (3–7 Days)

A NADRA Birth Certificate is Pakistan’s official computerized record of a person’s birth. It is issued by local Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), with each certificate linked to the national database maintained by NADRA, the National Database and Registration Authority of Pakistan. The document is also called a Computerized Birth Certificate (CBC) or a Child Registration Certificate (CRC), and you will need it for your CNIC, passport, school admission, immigration, and visa applications.

Getting a computerized NADRA Birth Certificate in Pakistan is more accessible today than it has ever been. Zahid Law Associates helps both Pakistani residents and overseas Pakistanis with the full process. Whether you need to register a birth for the first time, replace a lost certificate, correct an error in an existing record, or convert an old handwritten certificate into the computerized format, the process can usually be completed within a working week.

The Government of Pakistan issues these certificates through Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and TMAs as official, digitally verifiable records. They are recognised internationally and are the standard identity document for confirming birth details for immigration, visa, passport, education, and employment purposes.

What Is a NADRA Birth Certificate?

NADRA Birth Certificate
Nadra Birth Registration certificate

A NADRA Birth Certificate is the official computerized record of a person’s birth in Pakistan. The document captures your registered birth details, including your full name, date of birth, place of birth, and your parents’ names and CNIC numbers, in a standardised format that is verifiable against Pakistan’s national database.

What does NADRA stand for?

NADRA is short for the National Database and Registration Authority. It is an autonomous body of the Government of Pakistan, established under the NADRA Ordinance 2000. NADRA maintains the country’s civil registry, including CNICs (Computerized National Identity Cards), NICOPs (National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis), and the database behind every computerized birth, marriage, and death certificate.

Why three names for the same document?

You may have seen this certificate referred to in three different ways:

NADRA Birth Certificate: The most common name, used on most government forms and in everyday speech.

Computerized Birth Certificate (CBC): The technical name, used to distinguish it from old handwritten certificates.

Child Registration Certificate (CRC): The name used during the registration process for a minor. Once issued, it works as the NADRA Birth Certificate.

For passport, CNIC, school admission, visa, and immigration purposes, all three refer to the same underlying record.

NADRA Birth Certificate vs Manual, CRC, and B-Form

Pakistanis often encounter four document names that sound similar but mean different things. Here is the practical difference.

DocumentWhat it isWhen you need it
NADRA Birth Certificate (Computerized)The full official birth certificate, computer-printed and linked to NADRA’s national database.Passport, CNIC, school admission, visa, immigration, foreign employment.
Manual or Handwritten Birth CertificateAn old-style certificate from a local register entry. Not electronically verifiable.Generally not accepted for international or immigration purposes. You will need to convert it to the computerized version.
CRC (Child Registration Certificate)The certificate issued during the birth registration process for a minor.Required when registering a child’s birth for the first time. Once issued, it functions as the NADRA Birth Certificate.
B-Form (Form-B)A separate NADRA-issued identity document for children under 18. Lists the child’s CNIC registration number and parents’ details.School admission, child travel, certain government services. It is a child’s ID, not the birth certificate.

In short, the NADRA Birth Certificate is the birth record. The B-Form is the child’s identity document. Most certificates issued today are also CRCs, and manual certificates are obsolete for serious legal use.

How to Apply for a NADRA Birth Certificate, Step by Step

This is the process we follow for every client, whether you are applying from Karachi, Lahore, or overseas.

Step 1. Contact us. Reach out by WhatsApp on +92 300 2329223, by phone, or through our online contact form. Share your case details so we can identify the correct issuing authority for your situation.

Step 2. Send your documents. Email or WhatsApp the scanned copies. You do not need to visit our office.

Step 3. We prepare your application. Our legal team reviews everything and prepares the complete package. If anything is missing, we tell you upfront, not after the authority rejects it.

Step 4. We file the application. The application goes to the relevant Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA on your behalf.

Step 5. We track and follow up. Most delays in NADRA birth certificate applications come from a lack of follow-up, not from missing paperwork. We follow up directly with the issuing authority until your certificate is approved.

Step 6. You receive your certificate. Standard delivery is 3 to 7 working days. Overseas clients receive it by international courier, typically 7 to 14 days total.

Step 7. MOFA attestation, if needed. For visa, immigration, or foreign employment, we arrange Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation as an add-on.

What Does a NADRA Birth Certificate Cost in Pakistan (2026)

The total cost depends on three things, and we are happy to give you the breakdown upfront.

Issuing authority. Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and TMA offices each have different government-prescribed fees. The fee is set by the authority, not by us.

Certificate type. New registrations, duplicate certificates, and correction applications are each priced differently by the government.

Add-ons. MOFA attestation, urgent processing, and international courier delivery add to the total when applicable.

Contact us on WhatsApp for a clear quote for your specific case. We do not add hidden charges, and we show the government portion and the service portion separately.

How to Verify a NADRA Birth Certificate Online

A common question we hear: can you check or verify a NADRA Birth Certificate online?

The honest answer is no, not directly. Unlike the CNIC verification service (which works by SMS to 8300), NADRA does not currently provide a public online portal to verify birth certificates. The verification process still requires either a physical visit or an attested copy.

Three ways to actually verify a certificate

At the issuing authority. This is the most reliable method. Visit the Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA office that issued the certificate. Bring the original document and both parents’ CNICs. The office will check the record against their register and confirm whether the certificate is genuine.

At a NADRA Mega Centre. A NADRA Mega Centre can confirm whether the underlying birth record exists in the national database, though formal certificate verification is still done by the original issuing authority.

Through MOFA for international use. Foreign embassies do not verify Pakistani birth certificates directly. They accept the certificate when it has been attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We arrange MOFA attestation for overseas clients as a routine part of our service.

How to spot a genuine NADRA-issued certificate

A legitimate computerized birth certificate has all of the following:

  • A unique certificate registration number, combining the issuing authority code and a serial number.
  • The official seal of the Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA that issued it.
  • The authorised signature of the Secretary or Registrar of that authority.
  • A computer-printed standardised layout, not handwritten field entries.
  • NADRA security features on official paper, such as a watermark or hologram, depending on the authority.

If a certificate is missing any of these, treat it with suspicion. Foreign embassies and NADRA itself will reject documents that fail this basic check. If you have one in hand and are unsure, send us a scan and we will tell you whether it is genuine, and what to do next if it isn’t.

Lost Your NADRA Birth Certificate? How to Get a Duplicate

If your certificate has been lost, damaged, or destroyed, you can apply for a duplicate from the same authority that issued the original. The process is straightforward.

You will need:

  • An affidavit explaining how and when the certificate was lost. We prepare this for you.
  • Copies of both parents’ CNICs.
  • Any supporting document that references the original certificate, such as a school record, old photocopy, or the original certificate number.

We handle the entire duplicate process from start to finish. Most duplicates are delivered within the same 3 to 7 working day window as a new certificate.

How to Correct Errors on a NADRA Birth Certificate

Errors on a NADRA Birth Certificate happen more often than people realise. The good news is that almost all of them are fixable.

Common errors that need correction

  • The spelling of your name or your parents’ names.
  • The date of birth.
  • The place of birth.
  • Parents’ CNIC numbers.
  • The gender entry (rare, but it happens).

Two types of correction

Minor administrative corrections. Spelling mistakes, typographical errors, and small data entry issues are handled directly by the issuing Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA. You will need a correction application (we prepare it), an affidavit declaring the correct information, and supporting documents such as your passport, school certificate, CNIC, and parents’ CNICs. In some cases, two witnesses are required.

Major corrections. Changes that affect legal status, for example a change of date of birth or paternity entry, usually require a court order from the Civil Judge or Family Court before the issuing authority will amend the record. This is because such changes affect legal age, inheritance, guardianship, and other rights.

Zahid Law Associates handles both. For administrative corrections, we prepare and file the application directly with the issuing authority. For court-required corrections, our family law team (practising in the Sindh Family Courts since 1994) represents your case from start to finish.

Timeline

Administrative corrections: 2 to 4 weeks.

Corrections requiring a court order: 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the court schedule and case complexity.

NADRA Birth Certificate by City

Different cities are served by different issuing authorities. Here is where birth registrations are handled in Pakistan’s major cities.

Karachi

Karachi births are registered through one of two authority types:

Union Councils for births in municipal areas, handled by the local government.

Cantonment Boards for births in cantonment areas, including Clifton Cantonment, Karachi Cantonment, Malir Cantonment, Faisal Cantonment, Manora Cantonment, and Korangi Creek Cantonment.

Zahid Law Associates is based at Falcon Plaza, Tariq Road, Karachi, and works directly with both Union Councils and Cantonment Boards across the city.

Lahore

Lahore births are registered through Union Councils within the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, and through the Lahore Cantonment Board for cantonment areas (Lahore Cantt and Walton Cantt).

Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Islamabad: birth registration is handled by the Capital Development Authority Union Councils, and by the Islamabad Cantonment Board for cantonment areas.

Rawalpindi: Union Councils within Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation, and the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (Rawalpindi Cantt and Chaklala Cantt) for cantonment-area births.

Other cities

If your birth was registered in Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, or any other Pakistani city, the process is the same. We identify the correct Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA for your case and file the application on your behalf.

Frequently Asked Questions – NADRA Birth Certificate Pakistan

What is the full form of NADRA?

NADRA stands for the National Database and Registration Authority. It is the Government of Pakistan’s autonomous body responsible for the national civil registry. NADRA was established under the NADRA Ordinance 2000 and manages the database underlying CNICs, NICOPs, and computerized birth, marriage, and death certificates. While Union Councils and Cantonment Boards physically issue birth certificates, the records are linked to NADRA’s database, which is why they are called NADRA Birth Certificates.

How long does a NADRA Birth Certificate take?

For applications handled by Zahid Law Associates, a computerized NADRA Birth Certificate typically takes 3 to 7 working days from the date all required documents are received. Overseas applications may take 7 to 14 days in total once international courier delivery is added. Older or never-registered births can require additional time, depending on the issuing authority’s verification process.

What is the difference between a NADRA Birth Certificate and a CRC?

The NADRA Birth Certificate, also called the Computerized Birth Certificate, is the full official birth registration record. The CRC, short for Child Registration Certificate, is the certificate issued during the registration process for minors and is the precursor to the formal NADRA Birth Certificate. In current practice, both terms are often used interchangeably for the computerized birth certificate issued through Union Councils and Cantonment Boards. See our full CRC vs NADRA Birth Certificate guide for the detailed differences.

Can I get a NADRA Birth Certificate from abroad?

Yes. Overseas Pakistanis can obtain a NADRA Birth Certificate without travelling to Pakistan. Send scanned copies of the required documents by email or WhatsApp. Our team handles the entire process through official channels in Pakistan and couriers the original certificate to your international address. We have served clients in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Oman, and Qatar.

How can I verify a NADRA Birth Certificate online?

There is no public online verification portal for NADRA Birth Certificates at this time. Verification requires a physical visit to the Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA office that issued the certificate, with the original document and both parents’ CNICs. For international use, foreign embassies verify Pakistani birth certificates through MOFA-attested originals. If you encounter a discrepancy or suspect a record error, our team can file a formal correction application with the issuing authority.

What if I have lost my NADRA Birth Certificate?

You can apply for a duplicate from the same issuing authority that issued the original. You will need an affidavit explaining the loss (we prepare it), copies of both parents’ CNICs, and any supporting document referencing the original certificate. We handle the entire duplicate process and typically deliver the replacement within the standard 3 to 7 working day window.

How do I correct errors on a NADRA Birth Certificate?

Minor corrections such as spelling or typographical errors are handled directly by the issuing Union Council or Cantonment Board through a correction application supported by an affidavit and documentary evidence. Major corrections, such as a change of date of birth or paternity entry, typically require a court order from the Civil Judge or Family Court. Our family law team handles both administrative corrections and court-ordered corrections.

What is the fee for a NADRA Birth Certificate?

The total cost depends on the issuing authority (Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and TMAs each have different government fees), the certificate type (new registration, duplicate, or correction), and whether MOFA attestation is required for international use. Contact us for a transparent fee breakdown for your specific case. We do not charge hidden fees and we show the government portion and our service portion separately.

Does Zahid Law Associates provide MOFA attestation for birth certificates?

Yes. After the NADRA Birth Certificate is issued, we arrange Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation for clients who need the document authenticated for international use. This includes visa applications, immigration processes, foreign employment, and dual nationality registration. MOFA attestation involves a separate government fee, which we confirm before proceeding.
