NADRA Divorce Certificate (Talaq Nama) Service in Pakistan

NADRA Divorce Certificate Talaq Nama Service in Pakistan

The NADRA Divorce Certificate (also called the Talaq Nama or Divorce Effectiveness Certificate) is the official computerized record issued by Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and TMA offices in Pakistan to confirm that a marriage has been legally dissolved under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961. Zahid Law Associates handles the complete process to obtain your Divorce Certificate: drafting the Talaq Nama, serving notice on the spouse, filing with the Union Council, attending all Arbitration Council reconciliation hearings on your behalf, and collecting the final certificate after the mandatory 90-day period. The service is available for clients in Pakistan and for overseas Pakistanis through a notarised Power of Attorney.

Zahid Law Associates provides a complete service to obtain your NADRA Divorce Certificate in Pakistan. Whether your divorce is being initiated through Talaq, Khula, or Mubarat, whether you are in Pakistan or living abroad, and whether you need a new certificate, a duplicate of a lost one, or attestation for international use, our team handles every step of the process.

The Divorce Certificate is required for CNIC marital status updates, remarriage, inheritance proceedings, child custody applications, spouse visa applications, and any matter where formal proof of divorce is needed. Without the certificate, even a religiously-pronounced divorce is not legally complete in Pakistan.

What Is the NADRA Divorce Certificate?

NADRA Divorce Certificate
NADRA Divorce Registration Certificate

The NADRA Divorce Certificate, formally called the Divorce Effectiveness Certificate, is the official computerized document issued by Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, or TMA offices in Pakistan after a divorce becomes legally effective under Section 7 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961. The certificate is linked to NADRA’s national database, in the same way that the NADRA Marriage Certificate is linked to the marriage record.

The certificate contains: names and CNIC numbers of both spouses, the date of marriage and date of dissolution, the type of divorce (Talaq, Khula, Mubarat, or other), reference to the original Nikah Nama, and the issuing authority’s official seal and signature. It is bilingual (Urdu and English) and accepted by Pakistani government departments and foreign authorities worldwide as legal proof of divorce.

NADRA Divorce Certificate vs Talaq Nama

The two terms are often used interchangeably but technically refer to different documents in sequence:

  • Talaq Nama (Divorce Deed): The written declaration of divorce prepared on legal stamp paper at the start of the process, signed by the initiating spouse and witnesses. It is the source document.
  • NADRA Divorce Certificate (Divorce Effectiveness Certificate): The computerized certificate issued by the Union Council at the end of the process, after the 90-day reconciliation period has expired and the divorce becomes legally effective. This is the final document accepted by government departments and embassies.

Our service handles both: we prepare and serve the Talaq Nama, and we obtain the final NADRA Divorce Certificate after the Section 7 process completes.

Obtain Your NADRA Divorce Certificate: Step by Step

This is the workflow we follow for every client, whether you are in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, or overseas.

Step 1, Contact us. Reach out by WhatsApp on +92 300 2329223, by phone, or through our online contact form. Share the basic details of your case so we can determine the correct issuing authority and the right pathway (Talaq, Khula, Mubarat, or existing decree).

Step 2, Send your documents. Email or WhatsApp the scanned copies. You do not need to visit our office.

Step 3, We draft the Talaq Nama. For new divorces, our team prepares the Divorce Deed on legal stamp paper in your name, including all required formal elements: pronouncement, settlement of dower (Mahr), custody arrangements where applicable, and witness signatures.

Step 4, We serve the notice. The Talaq Nama and Final Legal Notice are served on the spouse through legally recognised methods: registered post with acknowledgment, courier, service through counsel, or substituted service where standard methods fail.

Step 5, We file with the Union Council. A copy of the Talaq notice is filed with the Chairman of the Union Council where the marriage was registered. The mandatory 90-day reconciliation period begins from this filing date.

Step 6, We attend all Arbitration Council hearings. The Arbitration Council convenes for reconciliation hearings during the 90-day period. Our representative attends on your behalf, so you do not need to be present in person.

Step 7, We collect the NADRA Divorce Certificate. Once the 90-day period expires and the divorce becomes legally effective, the Union Council issues the certificate within 5 to 15 working days. We collect the original and verify all details.

Step 8, MOFA attestation, if needed. For international use including spouse visa updates, immigration matters, and foreign court proceedings, we arrange Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan attestation as an add-on.

Step 9, You receive your certificate. Standard delivery in Pakistan is 1 to 3 working days after collection. Overseas clients receive the certificate by international courier with tracking.

What Does the NADRA Divorce Certificate Cost in Pakistan

The total cost depends on several factors, and we provide a clear breakdown upfront.

Issuing authority. Union Councils, Cantonment Boards, and TMA offices each have different government-prescribed fees. The fee is set by the authority, not by us.

Case type. A new divorce (where we handle the full Section 7 process) involves different costs than collecting a certificate where the divorce has already been registered. Duplicate certificates are priced differently.

Indicative cost components:

  • Union Council registration fee: PKR 500 to PKR 2,000 depending on the local authority
  • Stamp paper for Talaq Nama: PKR 100 to PKR 500
  • Family Court filing fees (for Khula cases): Vary by jurisdiction and case complexity
  • MOFA Pakistan attestation: Separate government fee for international use
  • Destination-country embassy attestation: Separate fee per embassy
  • Service fees: Vary based on case complexity, contested status, overseas considerations, and any custody or maintenance matters that arise

Contact us on WhatsApp for a clear quote for your specific case. We show the government portion and our service portion separately, and we do not add hidden charges.

You do not need to travel to Pakistan to obtain your NADRA Divorce Certificate. The full process can be completed remotely through a legal representative in Pakistan via a notarised Power of Attorney.

How the overseas process works

We have served clients in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Oman, Qatar, and other countries. All applications follow proper legal procedures, which means the certificate you receive is fully valid and recognised by foreign embassies, immigration departments, and Pakistani authorities.

How to Verify a NADRA Divorce Certificate Online

A common question: can you check or verify a NADRA Divorce Certificate online?

The honest answer is no, not directly. Unlike the CNIC verification service (which works by SMS to 8300), NADRA does not currently provide a public online portal to verify divorce certificates. Verification still requires either a physical visit to the issuing authority or formal attestation for international use.

Three ways to actually verify a certificate

At the issuing Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA. The most reliable method. The office checks the record against their register and confirms whether the certificate is genuine. We can handle this verification on your behalf if you need it for a third party.

At a NADRA Mega Centre. Can confirm whether the underlying divorce record exists in the national database, though formal certificate verification is still done by the original issuing authority.

Through MOFA Pakistan attestation for international use. Foreign embassies and immigration authorities accept the Divorce Certificate as verified when it has been attested by MOFA Pakistan. We arrange MOFA attestation as a routine part of the overseas service.

How to spot a genuine NADRA-issued certificate

A legitimate computerized NADRA Divorce Certificate has all of the following:

  • A unique certificate registration number combining the issuing authority code and a serial number
  • The official seal of the Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA that issued it
  • The authorised signature of the Secretary or Chairman of that authority
  • A computer-printed standardised bilingual layout (Urdu and English)
  • NADRA security features on official paper

If you have a certificate in hand and are unsure of its validity, send us a scan and we will assess it for you.

Lost Your NADRA Divorce Certificate? How to Get a Duplicate

If your certificate has been lost, damaged, or destroyed, you can apply for a duplicate from the same authority that issued the original.

You will need:

  • An affidavit explaining how and when the certificate was lost. We prepare this for you.
  • Copies of both spouses’ CNICs
  • Any supporting document referencing the original certificate (the original certificate number, an attested copy from a previous use, or any subsequent document referencing the certificate such as a CNIC marital status update)

We handle the entire duplicate process from start to finish. Most duplicates are delivered within 7 to 15 working days. For overseas clients, add international courier time.

NADRA Divorce Certificate by City

Different cities are served by different issuing authorities. Here is where divorce registrations are handled in Pakistan’s major cities.

Karachi

Karachi divorces are registered through one of two authority types: Union Councils for the municipal areas, and Cantonment Boards for cantonment areas including Clifton, Karachi, Malir, Faisal, Manora, and Korangi Creek Cantonments. Zahid Law Associates is based at Falcon Plaza, Tariq Road, Karachi, and works directly with both Union Councils and Cantonment Boards across the city.

Lahore

Lahore divorces are registered through Union Councils within the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation, and through the Lahore Cantonment Board for cantonment areas (Lahore Cantt and Walton Cantt).

Islamabad and Rawalpindi

Islamabad: divorce registration is handled by the Arbitration Council Office under the Capital Development Authority Union Councils, and by the Islamabad Cantonment Board for cantonment areas. Rawalpindi: Union Councils within Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation, and the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (Rawalpindi Cantt and Chaklala Cantt).

Other cities

If your marriage was registered in Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, or any other Pakistani city, the process is the same. We identify the correct Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA for your case and file the application on your behalf.

FAQs About NADRA Divorce Certificate

What is the difference between a Talaq Nama and a NADRA Divorce Certificate?

The Talaq Nama is the written Divorce Deed prepared on stamp paper at the start of the process, signed by the initiating spouse and witnesses. The NADRA Divorce Certificate (also called the Divorce Effectiveness Certificate) is the computerized certificate issued by the Union Council at the end of the process, after the 90-day reconciliation period under Section 7 MFLO has expired. We prepare and serve the Talaq Nama, then obtain the final certificate for you.

How long does the complete divorce certificate process take?

From the start of the process to certificate in hand: approximately 107 to 131 working days. This includes the mandatory 90-day reconciliation period under Section 7 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, which cannot be expedited or waived under any circumstances. For Khula cases, the Family Court proceedings precede this and typically add 60 to 180 days. For overseas Pakistanis, add international courier time of 3 to 7 days each way.

Can I check or verify the NADRA Divorce Certificate online?

NADRA does not currently provide a public online portal for direct verification of divorce certificates. Verification is done at the issuing Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA office, at a NADRA Mega Centre to confirm the underlying record, or through MOFA Pakistan attestation for international use. We can handle verification on your behalf where needed, including assessing whether a certificate you already have in hand is genuine.

What is the fee for a NADRA Divorce Certificate in Pakistan?

The total depends on the issuing authority (Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA), the type of case (new divorce, certificate from existing Khula decree, or duplicate), and any add-ons such as MOFA attestation. Contact us on WhatsApp for a transparent fee breakdown for your specific case. We do not charge hidden fees and we show the government portion and our service portion separately.

Can overseas Pakistanis get a NADRA Divorce Certificate without travelling to Pakistan?

Yes. The complete process is handled through a legal representative in Pakistan via a notarised Power of Attorney. We draft the Talaq Nama, serve notice on the spouse, file with the Union Council, attend all Arbitration Council reconciliation hearings, collect the certificate, arrange MOFA and embassy attestation, and courier the fully-attested document to your address abroad. We have served clients in the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Oman, and Qatar.

What if I have lost my NADRA Divorce Certificate?

A duplicate certificate can be obtained from the same Union Council, Cantonment Board, or TMA that issued the original. We prepare the loss affidavit, file the duplicate application on your behalf, and collect the new certificate. Most duplicates are delivered within 7 to 15 working days. The service is available for both in-country and overseas clients.

Is a NADRA Divorce Certificate recognised in other countries?

Yes. The certificate, once attested by MOFA Pakistan and by the destination country’s embassy in Pakistan, is recognised by foreign authorities including the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. It is the document accepted by immigration authorities, foreign courts, and embassies as formal proof of divorce. We arrange the complete attestation chain as part of the overseas service.

Is the NADRA Divorce Certificate the same as a Khula Decree?

No. The Khula Decree is the Family Court order granting dissolution in Khula cases. The NADRA Divorce Certificate is the computerized certificate issued by the Union Council after the Decree is registered. The two documents are sequential: Court Decree first, then Union Council registration, then Certificate. The Certificate is the final document accepted by government departments and foreign authorities. For the Khula process itself, see our Khula service.

Does Zahid Law Associates provide MOFA attestation for divorce certificates?

Yes. After the NADRA Divorce Certificate is issued, we arrange Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation for clients who need the document authenticated for international use including spouse visa updates, immigration matters, foreign court proceedings, and dual nationality records. We also handle the subsequent destination-country embassy attestation in Pakistan as part of the overseas service.

What is Section 7 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961?

Section 7 of the MFLO 1961 is the principal legal provision governing the divorce notice procedure in Pakistan. It requires that any Talaq be communicated in writing to the Chairman of the Union Council, that a copy be served on the wife, and that a mandatory 90-day reconciliation period elapse before the divorce becomes legally effective. During this period, an Arbitration Council is convened to attempt reconciliation. The Talaq becomes effective only on the 91st day if reconciliation has not been achieved. The NADRA Divorce Certificate is then issued.
