Procedure of Court Marriage

  • The couple who desires to marry must at least 18 years old.
  • The couple must be in the opposite gender in order to get married. Homosexual marriage is a punishable offence according to the law and it is also a heinous sin in Islam too.
  • The wedding couple should have free consent to do Nikah without having any kind of enforceability from any party.

Required Documents for Court Marriage

Marriage couple must possess a valid CNIC or Passport. In case both are not present, the Matriculation certificate or B form can be used.

    • There should be 2 marriage witnesses present from both sides. (Sometimes Law firms provides that too)
    • 4 or 6 photographs passport size.
    • A free-will affidavit from the bride’s side.
    • In the case of the second marriage of bride, valid divorce certificate or death certificate of the deceased husband is required.
    • In the case of the second marriage of groom, valid permission from the first wife is necessary.

After the marriage, the nikahnama is sent with other relevant documents to the Union council to obtain a “NADRA Marriage Certificate” issued from the Union council.
