Marriage Certificate Attestation for UAE: MOFA and UAE Embassy Service

Marriage Certificate Attestation UAE MOFA and UAE Embassy from Pakistan

Pakistani marriage certificates must be attested by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Pakistan and the UAE Embassy in Pakistan before they are recognised by UAE authorities for residence visas, family book registration, banking, or any official purpose. Zahid Law Associates handles the complete UAE attestation chain on your behalf without requiring you to travel back to Pakistan, with international courier delivery to your UAE address.

For Pakistanis married in Pakistan who plan to use their NADRA Marriage Certificate (MRC) in the United Arab Emirates, the certificate must be attested by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Pakistan and the UAE Embassy in Pakistan before it is recognised by UAE authorities. Zahid Law Associates handles the complete attestation chain on your behalf, whether you are based in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, or Umm Al Quwain.

If you do not yet have the computerized NADRA Marriage Certificate, we obtain it on your behalf as the first step. See our main NADRA Marriage Certificate application service for the application form and to start your case.

Why UAE Attestation Is Required

The UAE does not recognise Pakistani marriage certificates without a formal attestation chain. A Pakistani marriage certificate becomes legally valid for UAE residence visas, family book registration, banking, and government applications only after the following two-stage authentication:

  1. MOFA Pakistan attestation confirms the certificate is genuinely issued by a Pakistani government authority.
  2. UAE Embassy in Pakistan attestation confirms the UAE government recognises the MOFA-attested document for use within UAE jurisdictions.

For some UAE entities, such as residence visa applications and family book registration, an additional final attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) inside the UAE may also be required after the document arrives. Our service includes guidance on whether this final step applies to your specific situation.

The Complete UAE Attestation Chain Step by Step

Step 1: Computerized NADRA Marriage Certificate (MRC)

The original handwritten Urdu Nikah Nama is not accepted by UAE authorities. You first need the computerized NADRA Marriage Certificate (MRC), issued by the Union Council, TMA, Cantonment Board, or Arbitration Council that registered your Nikah. If you do not yet have the computerized MRC, we obtain it on your behalf as the first step of the service.

Step 2: MOFA Pakistan Attestation

Once the MRC is in hand, we submit it to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. MOFA has its head office in Islamabad and Camp Offices in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar. MOFA verifies the certificate against the issuing authority’s records and applies its attestation seal. Standard processing takes 3 to 7 working days from submission.

Step 3: UAE Embassy Attestation in Pakistan

The MOFA-attested MRC is then submitted to the UAE Embassy in Islamabad or the UAE Consulate in Karachi. The Embassy or Consulate applies its own attestation seal, which is the legal recognition required for the certificate to be accepted by UAE authorities. This typically takes 5 to 10 working days from submission.

Step 4: Final UAE MoFAIC Attestation (When Required)

For some UAE government uses, such as adding a spouse to a UAE residence visa, applying for a family book, or sponsoring a dependent visa, the final receiving entity in the UAE may require an additional attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) in Dubai or Abu Dhabi after the document arrives in the country. This step is performed in the UAE by you or your representative. Most UAE attestation centres handle this within 1 to 2 working days. We confirm whether this is required for your situation as part of the initial consultation.

Documents Required for UAE Attestation

  • Original NADRA Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC), or your authorisation for us to obtain it
  • Copies of both spouses’ valid passports, with current UAE residence visa pages if applicable
  • Copy of the Pakistani spouse’s CNIC
  • Confirmed courier address in the UAE for delivery of the final attested document

Frequently Asked Questions: UAE Marriage Certificate Attestation

How long does UAE marriage certificate attestation take from Pakistan?

If you already have the computerized NADRA Marriage Certificate, the complete attestation chain through MOFA Pakistan and the UAE Embassy in Islamabad or Karachi typically takes 10 to 18 working days, plus international courier time to your UAE address. If we are obtaining the MRC first, the full process takes 20 to 30 working days plus courier time. Final MoFAIC attestation inside the UAE, when required, adds 1 to 2 working days at your end.

Do I need to travel to Pakistan for UAE marriage certificate attestation?

No. The complete UAE attestation chain (MOFA Pakistan plus UAE Embassy in Pakistan) can be handled remotely through Zahid Law Associates via a notarised Power of Attorney. We collect the original document from your UAE address, process MOFA and UAE Embassy attestation in Pakistan, and courier the final attested certificate back to you via TCS or DHL.

What is the difference between MOFA attestation and UAE Embassy attestation?

MOFA attestation is performed by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and confirms the marriage certificate is a genuine Pakistani government document. UAE Embassy attestation is performed by the UAE Embassy in Islamabad or the UAE Consulate in Karachi after MOFA, and confirms the UAE government recognises the attested document for use inside the UAE. Both are required. MOFA attestation alone is not sufficient for UAE use.

Where is the UAE Embassy in Pakistan located?

The UAE Embassy in Pakistan is located in Islamabad. The UAE also operates a Consulate in Karachi which can process certain attestations. The choice between the two depends on your case and the embassy or consulate’s current processing capacity. We handle submission at the appropriate location on your behalf.

Do I need to attest my marriage certificate in Pakistan if my wedding was already registered in the UAE?

If your marriage was solemnized in Pakistan (Pakistani Nikah Nama or Pakistani NADRA Marriage Certificate), then yes, the attestation chain through MOFA Pakistan and the UAE Embassy in Pakistan is required for UAE recognition. If your marriage was solemnized inside the UAE under UAE law, that is a separate process administered by UAE authorities directly and does not require Pakistani attestation.
